NEED TO KNOW MORE ABOUT HEAT PUMPS?

Join us on 2/15 at 7pm!

Even here in Massachusetts, we are not doing as much as we need to do to drastically reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. The scientific community has communicated the near-unanimous belief that weaning ourselves from fossil fuels is an imperative if we want our planet to remain habitable.

As a means to that end, Massachusetts is encouraging homeowners to retrofit their homes with heat pumps, offering zero-interest loans and generous incentives to motivate people to acquire them. But investing in heat pumps is not a straightforward proposition. Costs of installation and operation  - especially operation - can be confusing and, on one's own, it's hard to get information about this relatively new technology.

That's why members of the Charles River Green Coalition together with Neponset Valley Progressives, have scheduled a webinar on heat pumps. It will take place on Wednesday, February 15, 7-8:30.

The webinar will provide accurate information about heat pumps - what they do and how they work, as well as how to determine whether and when it makes economic sense to install them, and, if one does decide to go that route, how to choose a reliable contractor. We will also provide a step-by-step guide on taking advantage of the state's 0% interest loans and maximizing the rebate homeowners will receive for installing heat pumps.

Webinar presented by : David Green, Zero Carbon Home and Mike Simons, Abode Energy Management

JOIN US!

Happy New Year everyone!

We will be kicking off 2023 by participating in the National Day of Service on January 16th. MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. During the last quarter-century, the MLK Day of Service has grown, and its impact increased as more Americans embraced the idea that citizenship involves taking an active role in improving communities.

On January 16th at 7pm, we will meet virtually and prepare care packages in tandem for the residents of the West Roxbury VA.  Then on a subsequent day, we will deliver these packages to the facility.  We invite you to participate in one or both of these events.

CANVASS IN NH

Battleground for House & Senate Dems

The few competitive federal races in New England are mostly in New Hampshire -  a US Senate race and two competitive US House races. The Republican candidates in NH are all closely associated with Trump.

Without Maggie Hassan, who beat a sitting incumbent six years ago by 1000 votes with the help of MetroWest canvassers, there's no climate bill, no reconciliation bill, no Ketanji Brown Jackson on the Supreme Court, and no Rachael Rollins in the US attorney's office.

From now through October 21st, they will be canvassing every day of the week at 12 pm, 2 pm, and 4 pm, with an additional 10 am shift on Saturdays

LETTERS & POSTCARDS

Time-sensitive, so sign up ASAP!

With less than a month to go before the midterms, every action we take can make a difference - and especially in Pennsylvania, where we have an opportunity to flip a Senate seat.

John Fetterman, Democrat for Senate in PA, has indicated that Delaware and Montgomery counties are key for his election.

Those are the two counties you can mail letters and postcards to.  Check out link below.

EMPATHY: THE CORE DEMOCRATIC VALUE (DECEMBER 2021 NEWSLETTER)

Empathy— the Core Democratic Value

What does the Democratic Party stand for? The most compelling answer I have heard to this question is from George Lakoff, a cognitive linguist. According to Lakoff, “Empathy is a foundation of moral and progressive values.” If we think about the wide range of policy positions that Democrats take in the realms of social, economic and climate justice, they are all deeply rooted in the idea that in a democracy citizens care about each other— they have empathy for each other and act on it.

President Biden’s historic social and physical infrastructure plans are built on this truth. Businesses and individuals depend on public resources like roads, bridges, clean water, clean air, safe communities, education, good health (vaccines!!), quality food and products, satellite communications, internet…the list is long! In a democracy, the private depends on the public. Conservatives are very effective in communicating their core value— freedom. But without these public resources, how can we be free? Democrats are the real party of freedom, and should not be afraid to say it.

Our community strives to inculcate empathy in our children from a very young age. We teach them to put themselves in the shoes of others. As Democrats, this is the value we naturally continue to embrace. Caring, not just about individuals, but whole groups: one's community, one’s fellow citizens, those in other countries, other living beings— especially those groups marginalized, disadvantaged, or threatened.

So let’s wear empathy as a badge of honor and keep fighting for a government that cares about its citizens and has a moral obligation to protect and empower them

2021 MASSDEMS PLATFORM CONVENTION WILL BE AT THE TSONGAS CENTER IN LOWELL!

Democrats from across the state will come together to adopt a Party platform, discuss Party business and celebrate our successes as we prepare for upcoming elections. The event will take place in-line with all federal, state and local health guidelines and will include a virtual option for participation.
